With the right tools and materials, you can fill unsightly holes in your wood floor in just a few minutes.
Old houses are usually heated by floor radiators. But these radiators don’t last forever, and once they’re outdated and removed, you’ll leave big holes in your wood floors. An easy solution is to move the chest of drawers over the opening, but this will only hide the problem. It is best to plug these holes to prevent further problems.
To fill these holes, you will need a cork cutter, a cordless drill and a hole saw or spade drill. If you have old boards from the original floor, you’re in luck, otherwise you’ll have to look elsewhere for replacements. You can always cut a blind spot in an existing floor, such as a nook in a closet, but that leaves a hole in the closet. Your best bet is to pick up wood scraps of a similar color and texture and cut them into end caps.
Use a hole saw or spade to determine the size of the original hole. You may want to make sure the holes are the same diameter. After that, fit it to the size of the cutter. After you cut out the plug, you just need to apply wood glue and tap it with a hammer. Make sure the textures are aligned and you are ready to go.
